The continuous acrimony between Rajab Tayyib Erdogan, the President of the Republic of Turkey and a Turkish business mogul, Fat-hullah Gulan has taken a new twist following the designation of the group as a terrorist organization by the Turkish authorities.
According to the Turkish ambassador to Nigeria, Melih Ulueren, his country will soon take over the multi-billion-naira investments of the Fet-hullah Gulan Movement in Nigeria popularly referred to as "FETO".
He added that the Turkish Government had established the "Turkish Maarif Foundation", which he said would soon take over the movement’s economic interests, including schools, hospitals and manufacturing industries operating in Nigeria.
The disclosure was made by the Ambassador on Monday, 15th July 2019 in Abuja during the commemoration of the 3rd anniversary of the 2016 thwarted military coup attempt in Turkey allegedly; sponsored by Gulan movement.
The aborted coup was believed to have consumed the lives of over 250 Turkish nationals.
Some of the Gulan investments in Nigeria include schools and institutions such as Surat Educational Ltd., Abuja; Nigerian-Tulip International School, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Yobe, Ogun and Lagos; and the Nigerian-Turkish-Nile University, Abuja.
Other investments are the Association of Businessmen and Investors of Nigeria and Turkey/Abinat, Abuja and Lagos; Ufuk Dialogue Foundation, Abuja; Nigerian-Turkish Nizamiye Hospital, Abuja; and Vefa Travel Agency, Abuja.
