The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Abdullahi Muhammad has disclosed that his organisation will deploy not less than 1,500 personnel under the Agro-Ranger operation in this year’s farming season to give security to farmers in the crime-prone areas of the country.
Muhammad made this known in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri on Saturday. He said the measure is aimed at protecting farmers against incessant attacks by bandits and kidnappers, a development that will help build their confidence to enable them carry out their activities without trepidation.
He stated that about 750 personnel would be sent for a five- week training before deployment to the eight bandits’ prone areas in Katsina State.
Agro-Ranger operation/scheme was introduced to secure ranches and grazing areas to encourage participation in agriculture.
