Details of the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari, state governors and some security chiefs which took place on Friday at the Presidential Villa have emerged.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi while addressing State House correspondents said issues surrounding insecurity and creation of State police were discussed in the meeting.
He explained that though governors have not yet taken a position on the proposal for state and local government police, some states had disclosed their ability to support such state and local government police. Gov. Fayemi also expressed worry that some state governments were yet to address issues relating to the payment of monthly salaries to state workers.
He further disclosed that a comprehensive National Economic Council (NEC) meeting will be held to address the issue of security.
"As security officers of their states, Governors briefed the President on situations in their domains. We are ready to join forces with the President to end the security challenges in the country.
On the $1billion earlier taken from the excess crude account, Fayemi added that it must have been spent on securing the nation by the security agencies.
