The Federal Government has disclosed that it has completed all protocols for the registration of Congress for the Nigerian University Academicians, CONUA, a rival union to the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU. The statement was released today through the office of the Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige shortly after a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the new ASUU rival group, CONUA led by its president, Niyi Sunmonu who warn his members to desist from behaving like ASUU.
Ngige said his office has finalized the registration of the two newly registered groups where an official gazette containing, Trade Dispute Act and an official Certificate were presented to their leaders.
The Minister charged the unions to operate officially now in all Nigerian Universities without intimidation from anyone noting that the federal government has finally broken the monopoly of ASUU following the damage it has done to the Nigerian education system over the years.
He called on security agencies to give all needed support to CONUA to operate without harassment from ASUU members in every institution.
Recall that an internal memo had during the weekend emerged from the office Accountant-General of the Federation requesting details of all members of CONUA for onward payment of their withheld salaries that accumulated during the loggerhead of ASUU and the federal government last year.
