The Federal Government through the National University Commission (NUC) has approved the introduction of B.Sc Cyber Security, Data Science Information system, Info-Tech, Computer science, and Software Engineering into the Nigerian university curriculum.
The NUC made this known today in Abuja through a statement made available to newsmen. Recall in the year 2021, the NUC inaugurated a committee of experts drawn from various disciplines and across Nigerian universities to develop a new curriculum that will address the knowledge gap that will fit into the minimum required academic standard for the contemporary courses of study.
According to the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, the new curriculum described as the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standard, CCMAS, came into existence after a careful examination of the current benchmark in use by the universities.
In his statement, “The Federal Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission has embarked on radical re-engineering of curricula in Nigerian universities to meet global standards and international best practices towards preparing Nigerian graduates for relevance in the fourth revolution world economy with the skills needed for the future.
“The Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards has been revised to Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, Rasheed added.
He explained, “The CCMAS, provides 70 percent of what should be taught along with the expected outcome, while the university will provide 30 percent based on their individual contextual peculiarities and characteristics.”
