The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has suspended its nationwide strike which commenced on March 21, 2022, with the view of pressurizing the Federal Government (FG) to concede to some of the Association’s demands. The nationwide strike by NAAT would be suspended for three months and is coming on the heels of the suspension of the strike by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of University and Allied Institutions (NASU).
The suspension of the strike is expected to take effect from midnight on 26 August 2022 and was announced in Abuja at a press briefing on Thursday by the National President, NAAT, Ibeji Nwokoma.
The demands of the Association include the non-implementation of the FG/NAAT 2009 agreement, refusal to release enabling circulars for the implementation of CONTISS 14 and 15 for academic technologists, payment of occupational hazard allowance, among others.
Nwokoma stated that the Association also rejected the FG’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy, adding that the strike was suspended because NAAT was able to secure the government’s commitments on some of its demands.
According to him, “It is important to state that at the expiration of the three months window period, NAAT will not hesitate to resume the suspended strike action without notice, if all the issues agreed upon with the Honourable Minister of Education, on behalf of the government are not holistically addressed”.
