The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions (NASU) have suspended their two (2) months strike after a brief meeting with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu in Abuja on Saturday. SSANU’s national president, Muhammed Ibrahim made this disclosure during an interview with pressmen. “Yes, we have suspended the strike for a period of two months” - He noted.
The suspension of the strike is expected to take effect from Wednesday, 24th August 2022. During the meeting, Mr Adamu Adamu noted that the Federal Government has committed N50 billion to pay earned allowances for members of SSANU, NASU and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The unions called for the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, payment of earned allowances, usurpation of non-academic career positions by vice-chancellors, and the inclusion of university staff schools into the university community, non-payment of minimum wage arrears, and funding of state universities.
At the time of reporting, it is unknown which of the conditions were met.
