The Wife of Tunji Bello, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU. Her appointment was announced in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu approves appointment of Vice Chancellor for LASU’, on Thursday. “Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola-Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University. “Professor Olatunji-Bello was appointed following a recommendation by the Joint Committee of Council and Senate of LASU in accordance with the LASU Law, Cap 169 Vol 7, Laws of Lagos State. Olatunji Bello, a professor of medicine, had served as Acting Vice-Chancellor in the past before the elevation.

Following her appointment, she becomes the 9th Vice-Chancellor of LASU and the second female to occupy the exalted post in the Lagos State-owned tertiary institution.

The 57-year old professor was born on April 23, 1964, in Lagos. She attended Anglican Girl Grammar School, Surulere, 1974-1979; Methodist Girls High School, Yaba; Lagos College of Science and Technology.

She also schooled at the University of lbadan, 1982-85; the University of Lagos, 1987 and University of Texas, Health Science Centre, San Antonio, USA, 1994-1998.
