The Federal Government has on Thursday announced the reopening of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camps across the country with effect from November 10, 2020. In a statement issued by the Crops' Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi during the Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Workshop in Jos; with the theme: ‘Evolving a dynamic operational strategy in the management of camps in the context of COVID-19’. Adeyemi said the NYSC is committed to enforcing full compliance of all COVID-19 guidelines as approved by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) across its Orientation Camps nationwide.
Adenike said, “Management is committed to ensuring that no camp records outbreak of the virus. The 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course was suspended indefinitely on March 18th, 2020 to avoid any outbreak of COVID-19 in the Orientation Camps.
“In line with the current realities, our current approach to the conduct of the forthcoming Orientation Course will focus on proper induction of corps members on core ideals of the Scheme, with equal attention paid to the approved safety protocols.”
On Tuesday, the NCDC Director-General (DG), Dr Chikwe Iheakweazu disclosed at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing that prospective corps members would be tested for COVID-19, which would assist in ensuring Orientation Camps are kept safe.
