The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU) has insisted that the Federal Government must adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a condition to end the six months of industrial action.
Mahmud Lawan, Coordinator, Kano Zonal office of the Association, made this known yesterday at the end of its meeting held at the Federal University Dutse.
Accordingly, the Federal government had earlier directed the university lecturers to get enrolled in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in line with the Federal Government's centralized payment system.
However, ASUU kicked against the idea for reason only known to them but opted for their own developed software called the UTAS as a substitute for the IPPIS claiming the IPPS has violated the university autonomy clause.
Lawan said that they are not happy with the federal government's refusal to pay its members their three months salaries.
Earlier, the Federal Government had made it clear that failure by any employee to enroll in IPPIS would automatically make the government deny them their salary until they join.
In his statement, it partly reads; “We urge the Federal Government to immediately release the salaries of our members and stop playing politics with the ongoing six-month-old industrial action.
”The misinformation regarding payment of salaries by government officials is disheartening and laden with mischief to discredit the noble course of ASUU and its members,” Lawan said in the statement.
The statement demanded that the federal government as a matter of urgency should investigate the matter and pay its members their suspended three months' salaries.
The statement also called for the provision of revitalization funds, completion of renegotiation exercise, and adoption of UTAS so that the industrial action would be called off.
