The Organised Labour in Kebbi state has directed workers to commence an indefinite industrial action with effect from Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020.
The directive came in wake of the inability by the state government to meet up with the payment of the N30,000 new minimum wage as instructed by the Federal Government.|
The order was given by the state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Alhaji Umar Alhassan, who informed newsmen today at the end of the Executive Council meeting held at Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
The NLC chairman in his statement; “We are here together to discuss the ultimatum we gave the state government on our demands and it will end by Monday, March 2 at 12: a.m.
“That is why we summoned an extra-large meeting to inform our members about the situation.
“There has not been a positive response from government with respect to our demands.
“We have directed members to go on and mobilise ahead of our industrial action which is coming up on Tuesday,” he said.
According to Alhassan, though the invitation letter was sent by the government inviting them for the meeting, however, failure on the side of government to take up its obligation will not stop the workers from calling for industrial action.
In his contribution, Alhaji Hussaini Yelwa, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) call all unions under the TUC that by this notice call on all to mobilise their members for the industrial action.
According to him, all is set to commence the showdown by the NLC in Kebbi state.
