The National Universities Commission, NUC has on Thursday announced the phasing out of Mass Communication degree in Nigerian varsities to meet up with global educational advancements. The announcement was made by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary, NUC while speaking with journalists in Abuja, saying the degree will be split into seven different degree programmes.

He said, “The seven new programmers/departments to be domiciled in a Faculty/ School/College of Communication and Media Studies are Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film and Multi-Media Studies, Development Communication Studies, Information and Media Studies.”


Meanwhile, the unbundling of the degree will officially commence from the 2020 university admission year.
