The Federal Government disclosed that, so far, it has off-set the backlog of October and November 2019 allowances of N-power beneficiaries.

Adding that, the payment was made before December 20, 2019, as earlier promised.

This was disclosed over the weekend by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq.

It can be recalled that N-Power is one of the National Social Investment Programmes(NSIP) initiated by President Muhammad Buhari-led Administration to reduce poverty, unemployment and social insecurity among Nigerians.

It involves the deployment of thousands of unemployed graduates to schools and other institutions to work there while the government pays them a monthly stipend of N30,000.

Also, the NSIPs were hitherto supervised by the office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, but has now been transferred to the newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

In her reaction to the delay, the Minister shifted the blame on the handing over process of the N-Power programme to her Ministry.

It was gathered that the Ministry is currently engaging the NSIP Cluster Heads for clarifications; in essence, the handing and taking over the process for these two programmes are still ongoing.

Ms Farouq also assured Nigerians of continuity in the promptness demonstrated in the payment of the backlog.

In her words, this will ensure the programme achieve its set goals of improving the wellbeing of Nigerians especially, the teeming unemployed youths.
