The United States Embassy in Nigeria has disclosed that it has awarded 303 Nigerian Students from 17 states with partial and full scholarship of at least $7.5 million from 225 American varsities for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The Acting US Consul General, Osman Tat made the disclosure on Tuesday in Lagos during the 2019 EducationUSA pre-departure orientation for students who received fall admissions and scholarships.
The EducationUSA Advising Centre through the Opportunity Fund Program conducts annual assistance to exemplary students from low-income families to gain admissions to US varsities by funding their application process.
He congratulated the students urging them to acquire the much-needed skills to support Nigeria’s development.
He said the orientation is aimed at assisting and enlightening the students with moving preparations such as travel planning, adjusting to the American life, F-1 visa for international students, and safety on Campus.
The scholarships are for undergraduate and graduate degree for universities and colleges including Ivy League universities like George Washington University, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Howard University, and Boston University among others.
During the event, participants were opportune to converse with students who are currently studying in the US who gave them additional tips on the cultural, academic and social environment.
