The Director-General (DG), of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Suleiman Kazaure said the federal government is set to increase the corps monthly allowance as soon as the National Minimum wage takes effect.

The NYSC, DG declared this in Abuja during a swearing-in ceremony of the 3,022 Batch A corps members into the Kubwa, FCT Orientation camp. He said all hope was not lost as the scheme was waiting for the federal government to sign into law the new minimum wage bill.


Meanwhile, on the issue of whether to mobilise students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Kazaure disclosed all his office needed was a go-ahead from the federal government and it will swing into mobilisation of the students.


He enjoined the newly sworn in Corps members to behave themselves, and be a law abiding citizens while in camp and shun consumption of hard drugs.


The DG urged the corps members to remain patriotic especially when they are posted to their communities of primary responsibility and ensure that they make impacts in their host communities.


Declaring the orientation camp exercise open, Minister of the FCT, Alhaji Muhammad Bello who was ably represented by, Hajiya Safiya Umar, the Director, Administration and Finance of the Ministry, she revealed to the Corps members that, the NYSC has a reward system where special contributions, hard-work and excellence by corps members who distinguished themselves were recognised and honoured accordingly.


Mr, Kazaure also encouraged the corps members to tap into the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) programme being carried out by the scheme to train members on various skills that will help them become entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.
