The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has yesterday arrested the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano few hours after he handed over office to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The Governor was nabbed by the men of the anti-graft at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos when he was about to flee the country.

According to the source, the former Governor has been on the anti-graft watch list long before his tenure come to an end.

Speaking with BBC Pidgin, Wilson Uwajeren, the spokesperson of the EFCC confirmed the arrest of the former Governor.

Uwajeren disclosed that Obiano has been on their wanted list prior to the end of his tenure in office as a Governor.

In his statement, “Obiano has been on our watch list for sometimes now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him”.

Obiano was later taken to anti-graft custody for grilling.
