The Lagos State Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Eyin Eyo, Church Street, and Idumota Bridge on the state island. This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, during a stakeholder meeting at Alausa with NURTW, Central Busines District, CBD, and Lagos State Market Women Association (Iya Oloja General and Iya Oloja of Lagos Island).
The ban was connected to the recent deadly clash by two fractions of the transport union in the area where several degrees of causalities were recorded. More so, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has been directed to deploy Armoured Personnel Carrier on Idumota Bridge to prevent motorists from driving against traffic, and also to effectively carry out the suspension of the NURTW by getting rid of the Oju Opake boys with evil intention.
Speaking at the occasion, the Iya Oloja, Lagos Island, Alhaja Risikat Odumosu, appreciated the action taken by the Lagos State Governor, as well as expressed her displeasure at the wanton looting and destruction of their goods in shops around the Idumota area.
