The Kano State Government has suspended the operational license of all private schools in the state, following kidnap and subsequent murder of five-year old school pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, by her teacher, Abdulmalik Tanko. The development provoked nationwide outrage with many calling for the suspect’s execution. The state’s Commissioner for Education, Sanusi Kiru, announced the suspension in a press conference on Monday. On the suspension of the operational licences for private schools, Mr Kiru said the government will set up a special committee for guidance on the next line of action.
In a related development, Noble Kids Comprehensive College, the school where the suspected kidnappers buried late Hanifa, has been set ablaze by angry youths in Kano, who were protesting the gruesome murder of the beautiful baby.
Confirming the incident on Monday, Police spokesperson in Kano, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said it happened in the middle of the night.
He added that no casualty was recorded but parts of the school were damaged by the fire. No suspects has been arrested yet.
