More Trouble For Maina As EFCC Discovered N3billion In His Company Account That Does No Business During the court trial of the embattled former Pension boss, Abdulrashid Maina, yesterday a ninth prosecution witness (PW9), Rouqayyah Ibrahim, testify against Maina before Judge, Okon Abang at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Ibrahim who is a detective working with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in her statement said, Maina received diverted funds in dollars even while he was a fugitive in Dubai.
She continued that Maina operated companies with N3 billion net worth that does no business.
The witness said, the anti-graft found out that the defendant bought two houses in Abuja, at the cost of $3.4million, one of which is located in Jabi.
The transactions were made in Common Input name for $2million cash from one Adamu Modibo(now late), through his account officer, Khalid Biu who paid the money.
While other purchases were made in the name of one, Dr. Abdullahi Faisal, and it cost $1.4million, also paid by same, Khalid Biu.
Explaining further, Ibrahim said they carried out an investigation to unveil if Maina was concealing any income from any of his company that was yet to be accounted for. She added that the defendant also made a false declaration of his net worth after proper scrutiny on his asset declaration form.
She recalled that the anti-graft agency wrote to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) concerning the said companies own by Maina.
However, findings revealed that both the companies were mere briefcase companies that do nothing, let alone a legitimate one, while the turnover found in the company account was almost N3billion.
She added, when the payslip of Maina was retrieved as a civil servant, his monthly salary was only N256,000 as of February 2013.
Analysis carried out by the anti-graft agency lastly revealed that with the said salary, Maina 35 years in the Civil Service would have paid him only N109 million without spending a dime.
