Kaduna Torture House: Court Remands Six Teachers In Prison

A Magistrate court sitting in Kaduna has remanded six Teachers of the Ahmad Bn Hambal ‎Islamiyya School that were arrested by police at the Kaduna Prison whom were accused of running a torture house.

The arraigned teachers were paraded before the Chief Magistrate Court 16 today Monday by police. Those arraigned include; Ismail Abubakar, Umar Abubakar, Abdul’azeez Adam, Abubakar Muktar, Abdullahi Auwal and Salisu Ibrahim. The Police Prosecutor, Hassan .M. Malan, informed the court that the six defendants were accused of criminal conspiracy, ‎wrongful confinement, cruelty to persons and unnatural act.


The prosecutor further told the court that police investigation is still ongoing. Meanwhile, counsel to the defendants, Sani Shehu Surajo, informed the court that the defendants were only at the court for cognisance arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction to preside over the matter.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Lawal Muhammed In his ruling, admitted that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try the defendants as one of the offences they were accused of will amount to capital punishment if convicted, saying only High Court has the jurisdiction for that.

 

Consequently, he said they (defendants) will be remanded in Kaduna convict prison as he adjourned the case to 29 of October for further hearing.

 

While addressing Journalist, the Counsel to the defendants said he will approach the High Court with the certified FIR presented by police at the court for bail application.
