A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday granted a ₦100 million bail to Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow Movement.
Ijeoma Ojukwu, the presiding judge, while entertaining a bail application filed by his lawyer, Femi Falana held that the prosecution failed to show good reasons why the defendants should not be granted bail since the offences are bailable.
The judge however restrained Sowore from addressing the press until the completion of the trial. He is also to remain in prison custody until the fulfillment of the bail conditions.
Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) had arrested the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 election on August 3. A Court sitting in Abuja granted the DSS order to detain him for forty-five days, to allow for the conclusion of investigation.
After the expiration of the detention order, the Court granted Sowore bail. The DSS, however, filed a 7-count charge of felony against him. He was arraigned on Monday while his bail application was heard today.
