Following public outcry, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigerian Police has dragged Senator Elisha Abbo to the Magistrate Court in Zuba Abuja for arraignment over the alleged assault.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma confirmed the development to The Nation newspaper.

When called by the Newspaper, he said “I know you are calling to confirm about the Senator. They are presently on their way to Zuba Magistrate court for his arraignment.”

The report said the arraignment followed a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, after being inundated by calls from well-meaning Nigerians.

Speaking on the charges to be preferred against the Senator, Ciroma said he would throw more light on the matter later as he was attending a crucial meeting.

“I will get back to you on that because I am presently in a meeting.”

The Senator was earlier invited by the police and subsequently granted administrative bail based on self-recognition. His invitation followed the viral publication of video footage wherein he was seen assaulting an Abuja lady in an adult shop.

The Senator later held a press conference, where he apologized to the victim, his constituency, Nigerians as a whole, the church and his family. He also assured Nigerians of his good conduct going forward.
