Staffs of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) on Thursday protested against the reinstatement of the suspended Executive Secretary of the Scheme, Prof. Yusuf Umar. The protest started when Prof. Umar resumed work today after receiving the letter of his reinstatement by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The aggrieved staff, under the aegis of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) led by the Branch Chairman, Mr. Razak Omomeji, called out his members to express their rejection of President Buhari’s decision to return the ES to his seat.

Recall that the Minister of Health, Dr. Isaac Adewole had suspended Prof. Yusuf Umar in 2017 after allegations of corruption, mismanagement of NHIS funds, insubordination and nepotism were leveled against him. A panel of enquiry had also indicted him although the House of Representative that investigated the matter recommended his reinstatement after finding him not guilty of the allegations.
