President Buhari Sets-Up Health Sector Reform Panel

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a Health Sector Reform Committee to enhance the development and implementation of health reforms in partnership with state governments and the FCT administration.

 

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu. 

The statement reads in part, “The committee will undertake a review of all healthcare reforms adopted in the past two decades and lessons learnt and factor them into the development of the new Health Sector Reform Programme.” 

President Buhari appointed Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo as Chairman of the committee. 

Other members of the committee are Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa; Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire; Director-General Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Alex Okoh; Director-General of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera; Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Ifedayo Morayo Antifa. 

Others are Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe; Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya; Dr Betta Edu, Chairman Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum representing National Council on Health; President of Nigeria Medical Association; President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; President, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives; President, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, amongst others. 

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Vesta Healthcare Partners would serve as resource persons and have observer status in the committee.
