Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has accused the Nigeria Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) of scaring investors away from his state with coronavirus alarm. The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 had on Monday warned the general public that they have placed Kogi state at “high risk” state that travellers should avoid it or enter at their risk over the unyielding of the state Governor to acknowledged the existence of coronavirus in his domain.

However, reacting to the PTF SOS today in the state, the Commissioner of information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo said that the PTF was just raising an unnecessary alarm to scare away investors in the state.

He explained that the government was attacking Kogi state because of its stance that the pandemic should not be turned into a money making cow that should be milked dry for the benefit of few in the corridor of power while the generality of Nigerians is wailing in hunger.

Fanwo disclosed that Kogi state has done more sensitization than any other state of the federation and that has been helping his people to avoid the disease.

He said, “Despite their unreliable figures, Kogi emerged as the preferred investment destination of Nigeria in the last quarter of 2020. They felt embarrassed and the best way to hit back is to create a picture of the health crisis in the state,”.

According to the commissioner, Kogi state was the first state to procure a face mask in the midst of the pandemic and distributed it to council areas for their use in the fight against the pandemic.

Isolation Centres with the modern state of art facilities were put in place to checkmate the spread of the disease, sensitization was carried round the state all to ensure that people are aware and take precaution, Fanwo added.

He insisted that “What we said and still saying is that COVID-19 is not worth all the marketing going on just for a few to make billions; that we do not have to suffer innocent Nigerians while a few smile to the banks
