The European Union (EU) has donated a grant of €50 million to Nigeria as their contribution to the Nations fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Hours after signing the COVID-19 regulations number two of 2020 into law, President Buhari received in audience the European Union (EU) Delegation at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.
In the meeting with the President, the Head of EU delegation, Amb. Ketil Karlsen announces the donation of €50 million grant as support to Nigeria in combating the COVID-19. This donation by the EU is the largest support the Union has so far given to any country outside Europe, during this pandemic.
Ambassador Karlsen also commended President Buhari's state of the nation address last night, stressing “indeed the current situation is no joke and we wish to commend you for taking bold and necessary measures.”
He further added that the European Union was mobilising other sources of funding, noting that they have already paid 1.2 million Euros to UNICEF, and goods purchased through that funding are expected in the country soon.
