Li Wenliang, a doctor who was among the first to warn about the coronavirus outbreak, has been reported dead.
According to reports from several sources, the Doctor died from the infection. The 34-year-old doctor working in Wuhan was among the first to warn about the coronavirus outbreak on December 30, posting in his medical school alumni group on the Chinese messaging app WeChat that seven patients from a local seafood market had been diagnosed with a SARS-like illness and were quarantined in his hospital; He was however silenced by the police and was accused of rumour-mongering.
Dr Li Wenliang was hospitalized on January 12 after he contracted the virus from one of his patients, and he was confirmed to have the coronavirus on February 1.
The Wuhan City Central Hospital said in a post at about 12:45 a.m. on Friday on its official account on the Chinese social media site, Weibo, that it was still trying to save the doctor, Li Wenliang, and that he was in critical condition. Dr Mike Ryan has expressed sadness at the news of Li's death. "We are very sad to hear the loss of Li Wenliang," he said when asked about the doctor's death during a daily coronavirus press briefing in Geneva. "We should celebrate his life and mourn his death along with colleagues,"
