The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed on Sunday 7th of April 2017, that it will introduce a funding system which will cater for the needs of patients with confirmed cases of Lassa fever in the country.

He said the health care fund is aimed at ensuring patients get the much-needed treatment by covering the expenses so issues of finance would not impede on the process.

Ihekweazu added that the funding structure covers the main treatment costs, as patients on admission have some costs accrued to them. However, in some special cases, the health care funding covers the full treatment, and the patient is treated free of charge.

While urging Nigerians to adopt preventive measures against the virus, the DG said the health of the patient is placed in utmost priority, as payment could be done either upfront or at the end of the treatment.
