One of the health workers in Ondo state have reportedly died of suspected lassa fever disease, at Kidney Care Centre, Medical Village, Ondo town, Ondo state.
The health office identified as Rasheedat Mohammed, who is a laboratory attendant was reportedly infected with the deadly disease in Port Harcourt, where she went to visit a relative, who had earlier been infected and died of the disease.
As a result, workers at the hospital, who earlier raised alarm alleged that the hospital management was aware of the suspected case of Lassa fever in the hospital and that the case was reported to Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Akinwumi Akinbodewa, yet it declined to give a directive for medical examination for the workers, particularly the health and medical officers.
One of the health officers, who spoke in confidence, said workers at “the kidney care centre were currently working in fear. We don’t know what to do, one of us has been killed by Lassa Fever.
“We have appealed to the management to conduct at medical test for us but the CMD did not want us to cry out because of the image of the hospital and the state but our own life is at risk now.
“We expected the hospital to have taken our blood sample to Irrua Specialists Hospital to check whether any of us had been infected or not but they have done nothing about it.”
