Resident Doctors under the aegis of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday proceeded on an indefinite strike. The action was contained in a circular signed by National President of NARD, Dr. John Onyebueze and the Secretary General, Dr. Aneke Emmanuel. The circular which was made available to newsmen in Abuja read;

“The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria, rising from her extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which held on Sunday 3rd September, 2017 at Park View hotels, Abuja rejected the memorandum of terms of settlement from the Government on the items of her demand for strike action, and resolved to proceed on the proposed National total and indefinite strike with effect from 8.00am Monday 4th September 2017.”

Recall that the leadership of NARD met with the Minister of Health, Dr. Isacc Adewole and that of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige last week to resolve the lingering industrial dispute. The meeting, however, failed to pacify the aggrieved doctors.

The aggrieved doctors who had earlier given the Federal Government 21days ultimatum, listed their demands to include immediate enrollment in the IPPIS platform, circularization of house officers entry point, payment of salary shortfall, improvement of remuneration and better working environment among others.
