Residents of Shiyar Ajiya, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara state have been thrown into mourning following the death of seven people. The deceased, including six members of the same family, died after eating a local food known as Fate (leaf porridge). The Acting Governor of the state, Abdullahi Shinkafi who confirmed the development in a chat with NAN disclosed that a team of medical experts have been deployed to the area to investigate the incident.

According to him, “they have already taken the sample; we are waiting for them to give us the result to enable us take action. People close to the deceased said the death was as a result of poisoned leaf porridge which was said to be contaminated by onion seeds. We cannot rely on what we heard; we are waiting for medical experts to come out with the result.”


He added that the state government was concerned that was why “I led the government delegation to condole their family.”
