The Federal Government has on Monday announced that it has begun the distribution of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to the 36 states of the federation. Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) made the announcement during the daily Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 press briefing in Abuja, saying the distribution would be concluded on Tuesday.

Dr. Shuaib said the federal government is designating Vaccine Accountability Officers (VAOs) in the state and local government area levels to closely monitor the management and implementation of the vaccine as well as the retrieval of vaccine vials for proper disposal.

He also assured that the government has made adequate provisions to distribute the vaccine with standard vaccination sites across all states, adding that the vaccination program will start with frontline health workers, while Governors will be vaccinated today.

Vigil360 reports that Dr. Shuaib alongside the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, and other members of the PTF received their jabs of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
