The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire had on Thursday urged affluent Nigerians to donate their buildings as isolation centres as the number of cases has continued to rise.
The Minister made the appeal in Abuja during a press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
Ehanire said, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) target to test about two million people in the next three months, therefore, more buildings would be required as isolation centres.
According to him, “I have appealed to citizens to make their property available temporarily for this purpose.
I am sure that after that, there are many property owners who will come up and donate to state governments for a period of time to be used for this function.
“We are not out of space now but we are making the appeal ahead of time so that we have these facilities ready.”
The Minister noted he was aware the hazard allowance of the healthcare workers on the frontline is being considered, however, said it did not include the environmental Health personnel.
He said the test capacity for now for the 15 laboratories across the country had reached 2500, therefore urged Nigerians to take advantage of the facilities.
