The Federal Government has on Thursday launched a mobile testing and treatment vehicles that would be deployed to fight the spread of COVID-19 spread in the rural communities.
The idea was conceptualised as government effort tagged “Telemedicine Project for Rural Medical Services championed by the National Space Research and Development Agency.
NARSDA, and Agency under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, is set to work on the project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu and member of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology were at the Ministry’s headquarters to inspect the prototype of the testing vehicle.
During the event, the Minister described the vehicle as, equipped with a bed, waiting room and laboratory testing facilities, “a game-changer” in the campaign against COVID-19.
A medical team, comprising ear and throat experts, was also attached to the vehicle.
The Minister revealed the federal government is set to extend the quality of the facility provided in Lagos to other parts of the rural community.
Onu in his statement said;
“This is a game-changer – this is essentially taking the hospital to the home with the facility we have here.
“With this facility, we will be providing telemedicine, we can deliver the same medical service.
He added the vehicles would be deployed to all part of the country, saying smaller buses might be utilised for the scheme.
Meanwhile, Jonathan ANgulu, the Acting Director-General of NARSDA explained that the agency is planning to take the Telemedicine project to the 774 local govt across the country.
