The World Health Organisation (WHO) has today placed Kericho County of Kenya on high red alert over a suspected case of Ebola virus.
This was following suspected symptoms of the virus exhibited by a patient, at the Kericho County Referral Hospital.
According to officials, the woman had travelled from Malaba, a town bordering Kenya and Uganda to visit her Husband who works in Kericho.
However, the patient was yesterday admitted and quarantined for further observations and diagnosis.
In a statement, the Kericho County authorities said, “The county disease surveillance team immediately took over the matter and took all the necessary precautions to ensure that there was minimal contact between the patient and other persons at the hospital including the staff and the other hospital users.
“The county Department of Health Services is monitoring this potential case very closely and is working with the National Government to ensure that all essential procedures are followed to protect public health and safety,” the county government added.
