The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) says it has started recalling cough syrup containing Codeine from its stakeholders in compliance with Federal Government directive. The Registrar of PCN, Mr Elijah Mohammed, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

One new case of Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been confirmed in Wangata, one of the three health zones of Mbandaka, a city of nearly 1.2 million people in Equateur Province in north-western Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced the finding, after laboratory tests conducted by the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) confirmed one specimen as positive for EVD.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Children Investment Foundation Fund (CIFF) have pledged to support the Kaduna State Government to treat no fewer than 279,542 malnourished children in the state. UNICEF’s Chief of Nutrition, Simeon Nanama, made the pledge during an assessment visit to a Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) site at the Primary Health Care Centre at Jaji, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered striking members of Joint Health Sector Union to suspend its on-going strike and resume duties across the nation within 24 hours. Justice Babatunde Adejumo gave the order after listening to the submissions of Mr. Okere Nnamdi in an ex-parte motion filed by a non-governmental organisation.

Doctors Sabotage Health Workers’ Strike

The lingering nationwide strike embarked upon by health workers may suffered a set-back following resolve by doctors to render services and kick against the demands of the health workers.

The National Chairman of JOHESU, Mr Biobebelemoye Josiah, has therefore alerted of efforts by the doctors to frustrate ongoing talks to end the four-week-old strike.

Josiah raised the alarm when he fielded questions from newsmen in Abuja, Monday. He also accused the Ministry of Health of collaborating with the doctors in suppressing JOHESU’s legitimate demands from the government.
