Following the decline in cases of COVID-19 in the country especially the variant, the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) has reviewed the country's response to the pandemic. This was made public by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) who doubled as the chairman of the PSC, Boss Gida Mustapha, today in Abuja said this followed the reduction in cases of importation of the new variant. Availability of vaccines and their accessibility to members of the public was also what necessitated their committee action coupled with the global reduction, he said.

He added, that the social restriction recommendations were reviewed to accommodate related areas like movement, Industry, and Labour as well as community activities.

According to Mustapha, the safety protocol provide a baseline from which the state government would wish to further build and strengthen the responses to suit their individual states.

In his statement, “States should continue to consider them as the minimum guidelines required to ensure an acceptable level of epidemic control nationwide,”

The SGF declared that there is no more physical restriction on movement in the country as well as the nationwide curfew that use to be from midnight to 4 am is longer enforceable.

He also said the advisory limiting citizens from essential travels has also been lifted, advising Nigerians to desist from non-essential movement and comply with the pharmaceutical guidelines such as the use of facemask/facial covering in public, considering the risk involved.

The statement said, “Use of face mask to be mandatory for indoor activities but at individual’s discretion during outdoor activities.”
It added, “Those aged 60 and above or with co-morbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are advised to uphold the use of universal precaution which includes the use of face mask, avoid the crowd and frequent use of hand sanitizers,”

Meanwhile, there is no limitation for air travel for both domestic and international flights; however, in both categories, they should abide by the existing protocol including the use of a facemask while on board as well as observing precautionary measures.

He reiterated that all arriving international passengers must register with the Nigeria International Travel Portal (https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng) and abide by the travel guidelines.
