Biden Nominates Adeyemo As Deputy Treasury Secretary

Unites States President-elect, Joe Biden has been nominated US-based Nigerian, Adewale Adeyemo as the Deputy Treasury Secretary. Adeyemo's nomination came while Biden unveiled his economic team, highlighting the historic nature of his nominations. Adeyemo worked as the International Economics Adviser for the Trans-Pacific Partnership during Barack Obama's administration. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley before proceeding to Yale Law School where he bagged his Juris Doctor, specializing in Law.

Adeyemo through his career has served in various positions including senior advisor to the chief of staff and deputy executive secretary. Also, he worked as the chief of staff at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from 2010 to 2011.


The Nigerian born served as an editor for the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution from 2008 to 2009, and also joined the Obama Foundation in 2019. If confirmed, he will be the first African American Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.


During the unveiling, Biden said, "As we get to work to control the virus, this is the team that will deliver immediate economic relief for the American people during this economic crisis and help us build our economy back better than ever."


Other nominations by the President-elect include Neera Tanden, president of the liberal think-tank, Centre for American Progress, as head of the Office of Management and Budget. The Dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs Cecilia Rouse also got nominated as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, the first African-American in that post.
