The United state President, Donald Trump has warned that eventually if China turned out to be “knowingly responsible” for the creation and the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, it could face damning consequences.
Trump in his statement while talking to correspondence in the white house said;
“It could have been stopped in China before it started and it wasn’t,” “and now the whole world is suffering from it”.
The US president was reacting to question on whether the Chinese authorities should face consequences over the pandemic which began in a Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year which has claimed over 157,000 lives globally as at present and still counting.
However, Trump in his response said, “If they were knowingly responsible, certainly,” he said.
“If it was a mistake, a mistake is a mistake.
“But if they were knowingly responsible, yeah, then there should be consequences,” Trump said.
“Was it a mistake that got out of control or was it done deliberately?” he asked.
“That’s a big difference between those two.
“In either event, they should have let us go in,” he said.
“We asked to go in early.
And they didn’t want us in.
I think they knew it was something bad and they were embarrassed.”
“They said they’re doing an investigation,” the president continued.
“So let’s see what happens with their investigation.
But we’re doing investigations also.” Trump clarifies.
The president opined that the coronavirus could have been an accident from a laboratory doing research on bats at Wuhan.
However, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Zhao Lijian who previously alleged that the United States Military might have brought in the virus into China has rejected the US media report, saying it has no scientific bases.
Trump also said he wasn’t comfortable with the casualty figure the Chinese authority dished out to the public which shows only 0.33 deaths in 100,000 persons.
He said, “The number’s impossible,” he said. “It’s an impossible number to hit.”
According to the chart displayed at the briefing, the United States has had 11.24 deaths in 100,000 people while France had 27.92 and Spain had 42.81.
