A Bombardier E-11 A aircraft belonging to the United States military has on Monday crashed in Deh Yak District of Ghazni, a Taliban controlled area in Central Afghanistan. The Taliban said it shot down the military aircraft, killing 10 people on board.
However, U.S officials, who wish to remain anonymous, said so far the plane had no indication that it was brought down by the insurgents.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, in a statement said “The plane, which was on an intelligence mission, was brought down in Sado Khel area of Deh Yak district of Ghazni province.”
He also claimed that among those killed included senior ranking officers.
Meanwhile, a senior defense official has refuted Mujahid’s claim saying no U.S official was killed in the crash, adding that investigations on the cause of the crash was still ongoing.
