The United States military on Sunday flew its B-1 bomber over the Korean Peninsula, in a move believed to be a clear response to the latest missile launch ordered by North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un. Aljazeera on Sunday reported that two of the bomber jets were sent from Anderson Air Force Base IN Guam on a 10-hour round trip over the Peninsula.
The B-1 reportedly teamed up with fighter jets from Japan and South Korea to test combined capabilities during the mission. The report quoted Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, Pacific Air Forces commander as saying
"Diplomacy remains the lead; however, we have a responsibility to our allies and our nation to showcase our unwavering commitment while planning for the worst-case scenario. If called upon, we are ready to respond with rapid, lethal, and overwhelming force at a time and place of our choosing"
Cable News Network had reported that on Saturday the US Missile Defense Agency conducted a successful test of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in Alaska, intercepting a medium range ballistic missile fired from a US Military aircraft over the Pacific Ocean. The test which was the 15th exercise was intended to demonstrate US readiness to promptly defend and retaliate possible acts of aggression
