Swedish Climate Activist, Greta Thunberg has on Wednesday been announced as Times Magazine's 2019 Person of the Year for her advocacy and fight for a better environment.
In an interview with Times, the 16-year-old said, "We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow. That is all we are saying."
Thunberg was the catalyst in a "School Strike for the Climate" protest which called for environmental action by world leaders, outside the Swedish parliament.
Earlier this year, at the Annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, she told CEOs and World Leaders "I want you to panic", "I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act."
However, her activism has faced criticism most recently by Brazillian President, Jair Bolsonaro who mocked her and called her a 'brat'.
Others have ridiculed her blaming it on her Asperger's syndrome, which makes it difficult to have social interactions and be on the same emotion with others.
Speaking on the hostility she has received from doubters, the teenager said: "I honestly don't understand why adults would choose to spend their time mocking and threatening teenagers and children for promoting science when they could do something good instead."
Among this year's contenders include Hong Kong Protesters, The Whistleblower, President Donald Trump, and Nancy Pelosi.
