In a move that would restore the faith of the common citizenry in the government, the Mexican government will be auctioning off a total of 82 cars seized from the wealthy, corrupt, and criminal officials. It was gathered that the proceeds would be given to the underprivileged.
According to the Guardian, the cars were taken off the hands of "sticky-fingered politicians and mobsters" while the money raised will go towards "social programs and deprived communities."
The seized cars were reportedly worth $1.3 million, and include C7 Chevrolet Corvette, Hummer H3T, Jaguar XK, Shelby F-150, Jeep Wrangler, a large fleet of bulletproof, black Chevy Suburbans, and most notably perhaps, a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was quoted as saying "We invite everyone to take part," "Everything that is confiscated will be handed back to the communities, above all the country's poor communities."
The auction will be held at Los Pinos in Mexico City, a former presidential residence building that's recently been repurposed as a public cultural center.
