US Secretary Of State Blinken To Visit Nigeria

The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Nigeria, Angola Cabo Verde, and Cote d'Ivore between January 21 and 26, 2024. US Department of State spokesman, Matthew Miller, made this public in a statement on Thursday. The visit is part of the United State's high-level engagement with Africa, with the Secretary of State planning to travel to Cabo Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and Angola during this diplomatic mission. Throughout the trip, the Secretary will highlight how the United States has accelerated the US-Africa partnership since the US-Africa Leaders Summit, including in areas such as climate, food, and health security. The Secretary will advance security partnerships based on shared values such as respect for human rights, promotion of democracy, and expansion of the rule of law.

Gunmen Attack Ecuador TV Station During Live Broadcast

Masked men armed with pistols and pump action guns broke into the set of a public Television channel in Guayaquil, Ecuador, during a live broadcast on Tuesday, and the president issued a decree declaring that the violence-plagued country had entered an “internal armed conflict.” The gunmen where seen telling staff to lie down on the floor and shouted that they had “bombs, while shouting and noises similar to gunshots could be heard in the background. Police have arrested 13 persons in connection to the incident which injured two employees. No one was killed in the attack. The incident was aired live, although the station’s signal was cut off after about 15 minutes. Is was revealed that some of the assailants ran from the studio and tried to hide when they realized they were surrounded by police.

22 Killed, Dozens Injured In Mass Shooting In Lewiston, Maine

In the state of Maine, a man hunt is underway for the person of interest in a mass shooting. There are reports of atleast 22 people dead and dozens injured. Police says the man connected with this horrific rampage is still on the run. The shooting happened about 7:00 on Wednesday, in Lewiston, Maine, a city of about 37,000 people. It is located about 35 miles north of Portland.  An hour later after the shooting authorities informed people to shelter indoors and lock doors.Authorities said they have identified Robert Card as a person of interest in the shooting. Card had been trained at a military facility as a firearm instructor and was recently committed to a mental facility. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.  

Drunk Driver Crashes Into Joe Biden's Motorcade

Secret Service agents moved US President Joe Biden to safety after a drunk driver crashed into a parked SUV that was part of his motorcade on Sunday night in Wilmington, Delaware. The incident did not result in any injuries. The driver, 46-year-old James Cooper, has been arrested by police on charges of inattentive driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. Biden and First Lady Jill Biden had just left his campaign headquarters after a meal with members of his re-election team when the collision occurred.

Former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter Dies Aged 96

Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former United States of America President, Jimmy Carter has died aged 96. She died peacefully with her family by her side at her home in Plains, Georgia, according to the Carter Center, a not-for-profit organization founded by her husband of 77 years, former president Jimmy Carter. "Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, a passionate champion of mental health, caregiving, and women’s rights, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:10 p.m. at her home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 96. She died peacefully, with family by her side,” the Carter Center stated on Sunday.

Donald Trump Indicted In Classified Documents Case

The former United State President, Donald Trump in recent charges been indicted by the US Justice Department. Trump was accused in multiple new counts including, altering, destroying, mutilating, or concealing an object; and corruptly altering, destroying, mutilating or concealing a document, record or other object; and an additional charge of willful retention of national defense information.
