An Uzbek immigrant accused of killing eight people in New York City by driving a rental truck down a riverfront bike path on Tuesday appeared to have acted alone, but the Halloween Day attack had all the hallmarks of terrorism, authorities said.

The suspect, who was shot by police and arrested moments after Tuesday’s rampage on the Lower West Side of Manhattan, left a note saying he carried out the attack in the name of the militant Islamic State group, the New York Times and CNN said.

The US State Department has issued a travel warning for the West African country of Niger and surrounding areas, citing kidnappings by a pack of terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is calling for drone strikes in the country.

Paul Manafort, former campaign manager for U.S. President Donald Trump, has been indicted by a federal grand jury alongside his business associate, Richard Gates. The 12-count indictment includes charges of conspiracy against the U.S., conspiracy to launder money, failing to register as foreign agents, and providing false statements to investigators, among other charges.

Former President Barack Obama has been summoned for jury duty next month in Cook County, Illinois. And he plans to report and serve, according to the chief judge of the county. The Chicago Tribune reported late yesterday that Chief Judge Tim Evans told county commissioners that the former president, who has homes in Chicago and the nation’s capital, was among those called for jury service in November.

A Brazilian, Cleber Rene Rizerio Rocha, whose arrest led US authorities to discover $17 million hidden under a mattress pleaded guilty on Thursday to charges that he tried to launder funds tied to one of the largest pyramid schemes ever recorded, according to Reuters reports. Reuters reports that prosecutors said the suspect tried to launder money out of the US that a co-founder of TelexFree Inc had left behind when he fled the country.
