British-Nigerian Minister Suspended For Calling Israel's Actions 'genocide'

A British-Nigerian minister, MP Kate Osamor has been suspended after she accused Israel of genocide on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day. Osamor, who is a British-Nigerian-born MP for Edmonton, sparked resentment after claiming in her weekly newsletter that Gaza should be added to the list of 'recent genocides'. Posting a picture of herself signing the Holocaust Education Trust's commemoration book in Westminster, she wrote on X, "Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza."

Haiti Declares Curfew As 4,000 Inmates Escape Following Attack On Prisons

The government of Haiti had declared a 72-hour state of emergency on Sunday after armed gangs stormed two major prisons including the Port-au-Prince prison, leading to the killing of at least 12 persons and the escape of about 4,000 inmates. Haitian local media reported that police stations were attacked by the gangs, distracting authorities before the coordinated assault on the prisons. The government said the attacks left “several wounded” among prison staff and inmates. Among the prisoners who escaped were those connected with the 2021 killing of President Jovenel Moïse. Gang leaders have revealed that they intend to force the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who at the time of the attacks had traveled abroad.

Alabama Witness First Nitrogen Gas Execution

The Southern US State of Alabama executed a convicted murderer, Kenneth Eugene Smith, using nitrogen gas on Thursday. Smith, 58, who was pronounced dead at 8:25 pm (0225 GMT Friday), was on death row for more than three decades after being convicted of the 1988 murder-for-hire of a pastor’s wife. The State Attorney General, Steve Marshall said, “Justice has been served. Tonight, Kenneth Smith was put to death for the heinous act he committed over 35 years ago.”
