The United Nations Security Council has unanimously condemned the latest firing of ballistic missiles over Japan by North Korea, describing the action as an outrageous threat. The Council which made its position known in a statement issue on Tuesday called on North Korea to abandon all nuclear weapons and programmes and desist from launching further missiles. The statement said it was vital that North Korea takes concrete steps to reduce tension in the region.
"The Security Council stresses that these DPRK [North Korean] actions are not just a threat to the region, but to all UN member states. The Security Council expresses its grave concern that the DPRK is, by conducting such a launch over Japan as well as its recent actions and public statements, deliberately undermining regional peace and stability."
The Council further urged all member nations to ensure implementation of all sanctions on North Korea.
Meanwhile, North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un on Wednesday called for more missile tests. Recall that on Tuesday, North Korea fired a missile over Japan, a move that heightened tension in the region. Pyongyang's official news outlet, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) claimed that the missile was a Hwasong-12 intermediate range missile that the Country first successfully tested in May and threatened to fire into waters near Guam.
Hours after North Korea fired the Missiles, South Korea Air Force conducted a live drill simulating the destruction of North Korea Leadership.
