Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran of building sites in Syria and Lebanon for the manufacturing of precision-guided missiles with the sole purpose of attacking Israel. Netanyahu stated this on Monday, hours before meeting Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General who is on his maiden visit to the charged region since his election into the UN early this year.
According to him;
"Iran is busy turning Syria into a base of military entrenchment, and it wants to use Syria and Lebanon as warfronts against its declared goal to eradicate Israel. Iran is also building sites to produce precision-guided missiles towards that end in both Syria and in Lebanon. This is something Israel cannot accept. This is something the UN should not accept," he added.
During the meeting, the Prime Minster also called on Guterres to redirect the attention of United Nations' Peacekeeping Forces (UNIFIL) in Lebanon to look into cases of arms buildup by Hezbollah. The UN Secretary General assured that "I will "do everything in my capacity" to ensure UNIFIL fulfills its obligations.
Meanwhile, Iran is yet to respond to the allegation.
