Four persons have on Tuesday been killed and eight are missing, following the collapse of a highway tunnel under construction in Yunnan province city of Lincang, southwestern China. According to the Chinese Authorities,

the accident occurred when Water and mud burst from the tunnel as work was underway around 6 pm, trapping 13 workers inside.


Five workers were pulled out from the site, but only one survived and has since been hospitalised.


Rescue workers were unable to carry out their duties effectively due to the Waterlogged and unstable conditions of the accident site. Also, Sniffer dogs and life detection machines have been deployed, while a medical team remains on standby at the site.


China suffers frequent industrial accidents, in October, an underground car park under construction collapsed, killing eight people.
