Angry with a planned military exercise between South Korea and the US in the coming month, North Korea on Thursday fired two short-range missiles travelling a distance of 430km and reaching an altitude of 50km before falling into the Sea of Japan.

North Korea has warned that the planned military exercise could affect the resumption of denuclearisation talks.

It was reported that the first missile was launched at about 05:34 Thursday local time (20:34 GMT Wednesday) and the second at 05:57.

The two missiles were launched near the eastern city of Wonsan.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s defense ministry has urged Pyongyang to stop provocative acts capable of heating up tension in the region. (NAN)
